Achan Da is an ordained Thai Forest Monk. He has been teaching meditation for over 30 years, and was a close student of Thai meditation master Luangpor Teean Jittasubho. Before coming to America, Achan Da served as Abbott of the Thatkong monastery near the Laos border in Thailand, and is now Abbott of the Redding Center for Meditation/Wat Sati-Ma in CT. Achan Niphen is also a Thai Forest Monk and former student of Luangpor Teean, and serves as Assistant Abbott of both Wat Sanamnai in Thailand, and the Redding Center for Meditation/ Wat Sati-Ma, in CT.
Mahasati does not require the adoption of any religious beliefs, and the retreat is suitable for both new and experienced meditators. While the day will be conducted mostly in silence, it will begin with a talk by Achan Da, and there will be short discussion periods in both the morning and afternoon. It is also possible to attend the morning part of the program only. There will be folding chairs and traditional meditation cushions (zafus) available, but the Community Centers chairs are hard, so if you’ll be sitting in a chair, you may want to bring a cushion to place underneath you. There will be a vegetarian curry available at lunchtime. You are also welcome to bring a bag lunch with you. There is no charge to attend, but advance registration is required. For more information, or to register, email Michael@MahasatiMeditation.org.
